Family Promise of Anoka County is in formation.  We began meeting in March, 2009 to discuss how we could adapt and implement the Family Promise model in our own community.  Our main focus right now is the recruitment of 13 congregations to host our families.  When we reach that goal, we can begin operations.

This is our mission

to connect the faith communities of Anoka County into a network of people and facilities that will provide safe and immediate shelter for families that have found themselves without a home or place to stay.

Each faith community will set aside a week at a time to create a living space within their facility for homeless families .  Volunteers from the faith community will provide food and hospitality to the guests during the evening, overnight, and early morning hours.  During the day, the parents and young children will have a day center at which they can pursue the resources they need to get back on their feet.

The benefits of this network are manifold, but here are two of the most significant:

  1. Some of the families in our county that are in real need will find the help and the hope that they deserve and will be able to create a safe and healthy environment for their children to thrive.
  2. An increased sense of community will emerge as people reach across denominational and religious lines that have historically divided us and work together to be the hands and feet of God’s love in our community.
